Nine Point Mesa is sixteen miles west of the Persimmon Gap Ranger Station in west central Brewster County (centered at 29°39' N, 103°28' W). The mesa is roughly circular, four miles across, and capped by a sill of quartz syenite up to 1,000 feet thick. The elevation of the mesa at its highest point is 5,480 feet above sea level, and it rises some 1,760 feet above the Nine Point Mesa Ranch, two miles east. The shallow stony soils of the area support scrub brush and grasses.
